Hobbit Storytelling
Last Sunday, the Philippine Tolkien Society, with much motivation and prodding from Ian, did a retelling of The Hobbit with me as storyteller. It was fun and we learned lots of lessons (we are revising the manuscript now to make it more engaging).
Children wanted to decode the runes on Thorin's map (a copy of which was painted by Tatcee on canvas and shown to them!). They also gathered to try Sting, Bilbo's magical sword. Members of the society also distributed activity booklets, containing a rune decoder.
I'm writing this because some of you may want to hold the same storytelling in your respective organizations. If so, just email me [rubencanlas(at)gmail(dot)com] and I'll arrange it with the Society. We want to refine it by constantly retelling the story. Wala pang Tagalog version, so we are looking for volunteers din to translate.
Thanks, Karen, for the great Gandalf costume that I wore and to the wonderful artists who rushed to make drawings for the storytelling!
